Shipping more Jidoteki features

Today we’re announcing some new features shipped recently in Jidoteki.

Compression

Previously, we distributed appliances in .ova.gz format, but we realized how annoying this was. The main issue was that you had to manually decompress the file before importing it in VirtualBox or VMware.

We fixed that. Now you can download the .ova directly, because we compress the disk inside the package, rather than compressing the entire package </jargon>.

Provisioned appliances

I don’t know why we didn’t have this feature from the start. When you’re viewing an installed appliance, you can now see the list of provisioned appliances related to it.

Dropped the add button

When provisioning, there used to be an Add button so you can add your GIT repository URL before hitting Provision.

We removed that button. It was annoying and extremely troublesome on the backend. In fact removing that button was the most difficult, elaborate and time-consuming feature to ship. Good riddance.

Name that provision

Initially, you could give a custom name to an installed appliance, but not a provisioned one. That made no sense, so we fixed that.

If you were paying attention, you would have noticed the provisioned appliance in the earlier screenshot has a name. Whoa! You can now give it a custom name in the Advanced Options.

Billing

Some people love Jidoteki so much that they wanted to pay us BEFORE the trial ended. It is now possible to do that automatically through the billing section.

We’ve setup credit card payments through Gumroad, but we also support PayPal for those who enjoy being tortured.

Other bug fixes

We shipped Jidoteki with a few minor bugs which some of you have pointed out, so we did our best to fix them all. If you discover a bug or security issue, please let us know through a private communication channel (email, twitter DM, phone?).

The future

We don’t want to spoil it for you, but we’re working on a few other crazy and awesome features (including some customer feature requests). Stay tuned to see what’s next.
